Westley comes in to the Westie Rescue program needing lots of help.

Westley…January 2023

2/02/2023 – Updates at the bottom of this post

"Westley" – Adult male (neutered) just came into the rescue program to day after finding himself at the local shelter. His pics show he has skin issues and all the signs of an uncared-for Westie. Today is freedom day for Westley as Westie Rescue picked him up, off to the vets for health checkup, shots updating, a well needed bath, skin issues identified, nail trim, and all the other normal treatments like: heartworm testing, fecal parasite testing, blood screening etc. He has been poked and prodded, now he is off to foster care for daily schedule, lots of love, a warm bed, and great food. Christmas was a little but not too late for this little one.

When he is ready, healthy and has wormed his way into his foster mom's heart, he will stay for life.

Westley says "Hello Westie world! I am a sad little guy with lots of issues that were never treated so they got much, much worse. My ears are full of stuff, my ears hurt and are really itchy. My whole body is nothing more than scabs, skin infection and I stink bad. Westie Rescue said they will pick me up this afternoon and zip me to a local vet for an inspection, some shots, and a medicated bath that will make me feel better. I hope so, as I was beginning to losing hope.

Now my back story, I was found as a stray and homeless. Nobody came to claim me so I was schedule to be put down this weekend. My old home was much quieter and I was well loved until I got old and got skin issues. My owners just left me outside to fend for myself. My skin issues got worse with time so I went for a walk one day and got picked up by animal control. This shelter has so much noise that I can't get any sleep.

I was told that Westie Rescue was coming to get me when my foster mom picked me up and hugged me while looking into my eyes and said "you are coming home with me", I knew right then my life was going to change for the better. She is really worried about me. I like that.

Westie Rescue said they could help me get well and get all the medical attention I need to be strong and healthy once again. My new foster mom said she will care for me for life. I like all of that too.

I was quickly taken to visit a Vet for a complete work up, shots and lots of looking and poking. At the vet they discovered I had a huge tooth infection, so I got a tooth extracted and my teeth cleaned and polished. No more fish breath while face licking. Speaking of sad faces, my face is all swollen from the infection, so bad I could not chew anything. Then we were off again to visit a really nice groomer who made me look like a new man. It was a world wind of changes for the better.

My foster plan is snuggling with my new mom to show her I am a "keeper".

I will report later this week on how I am doing. I hope my foster mom keeps taking pity on me and decides to keep my sorry butt as I am so tired. The noise level in that shelter was so over whelming that there was nothing left in me but fear. I was worried Santa could not find me in that shelter, but he did. Thanks to one and all for my second chance at a great new life….

Westley – January 2023

PSDid I tell you I get the sleep with my mom in a big human bed? My My, Santa does work wonders for little ones like me in trouble…..

While a week late we still say, "Merry Christmas, Westley". Welcome to your new world.

January 23, 2023 UpdateWestley has been adopted by his foster mom and is currently recovering from a respiratory infection he picked up at the shelter. Westley will continue to follow the rules for newly adopted Westies to ensure he stays for life.

  • Rule 1 Suck up for three days that way they will not return your sorry looking butt
  • Rule 2 Don't screw up a good thing
  • Rule 3 When in doubt see rules 1 & 2

Update Feb 02, 2023

Westley snoozing the cold days away

All is going great in my life now that I have a mom and my own big boy bed. Skin is improving and my fur is beginning to grow back. Everyday I am getting stronger and healthier. Those power walks are helping so we do those a few times a day. The multiple Vet visits have provided good results so I am ok with them.

Thanks everybody for your prayers and well wishes as they have helped me get through the bad days and now into the GREAT days!

My mom says I am a "keeper". I like that a LOT!

Is Westley in need of a westie loving home? I have had Westies most all my life and Dixon Dawg many years ago was even in my wedding. Duncan Dawg (westie), who I recently did Hospice care until the end due to intestinal metastatic cancer.

Westie Rescue – Westley has already gone to his new home with his mom who has been fostering him as he recovers, so he is in a good place.

I just have to send my Westie to doggie heaven and my heart is still broken. I keep thinking I could get another kind of dog, but every time I see a Westie, my heart just leaps out. I know Westley is not available, but do you have any updated pictures of him. I’m so happy he found his forever home and forever Mom.
