A Westie's predisposition to sensitive stomach problems has led owners to be very careful in their feeding routines. Westies are prone to vomiting yellow bile when their stomachs are empty. A bedtime snack and a snack upon waking are advised to combat this problem.

Westies should not eat mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, soy products, chocolate, high protein "hot" commercial foods and should also avoid the regular consumption of wheat products.
